Environmental Specialist

The Environmental Specialist will provide technical and administrative support for the environmental compliance programs at BerQ’s renewable natural gas (“RNG”) project sites. This position will lead the permitting, reporting, documentation and recordkeeping requirements of any required air, water and solid waste permits associated with BerQ’s portfolio of biogas to RNG projects located on dairy farms, swine farms, landfills and industrial wastewater facilities.

The position requires regular interaction with internal project teams, requires leadership of project reviews and permit assessments, ability to apply for and obtain necessary environmental permits and approvals for renewable energy projects, and to ensure project compliance.

We are looking for a highly motivated team member with a strong background in environmental permitting and compliance on energy projects. The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, exposure to environmental impact analysis regulations, and is comfortable working independently and in a collaborative team setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and maintain compliance manuals necessary for the effective implementation of the environmental management systems at each project site.

  • Provide environmental technical oversight to field personnel to ensure compliance with permit requirements and applicable regulations is maintained at each site.

  • Coordinate the preparation of a range of written documents such as technical reports and plans required by site permits and regulations for internal use or submission to regulatory agencies.

  • Prepare, interpret, and submit environmental permit applications for renewable natural gas projects and prepare compliance reports associated with permits.

  • Coordinate with internal project teams, subcontractors, clients, including requesting project information, answering regulatory questions, providing recommendations, and completing field surveys.

  • Monitor and analyzes environmental policies and regulations that affect the company and advise management.

  • Act as environmental permitting and compliance subject matter expert.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field.

  • 5 - 7 years of experience working on environmental permitting, compliance for a variety of energy-related projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong self-starter tendencies and excellent organizational/task management skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with regulators on project matters, permitting and related compliance.

  • Be a positive resource for the project team to guide proactive compliance.

  • Understand and communicate complex and sensitive concepts clearly, correctly and in a well-organized form.

  • Excellent analytical and interpretive skills and demonstrated problem-solving skills using sound judgment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong multi-tasking skills with interest in delivering results in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Experience building relationships in the energy industry and regulatory community.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare concise and accurate technical documents and report.

  • RNG Experience preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Plant Operator

BerQ RNG is hiring a full-time Plant Operator to operate and maintain its Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facilities. The Plant Operator will perform day-to-day activities to sustain plant up-time and product quality specifications requirements. This position ensures RNG plant manufacturing processing and compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) and local government related compliance activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Control: Monitor, operate, adjust and repair digester and RNG upgrading equipment required to maximize gas production in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.

  • Startup and Shutdown Procedures: Execute proper startup and shutdown procedures for RNG production systems, maintaining compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.

  • Process Optimization: Collaborate with the engineering team to optimize RNG production processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and implementing changes as needed.

  • Quality Control: Conduct routine checks and tests to ensure the quality of manure and product gas meet specified standards. Troubleshoot and address issues affecting product quality promptly.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks on plant equipment, including troubleshooting and coordinating repairs to minimize downtime.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to and enforce safety protocols and procedures, promoting a culture of safety among team members.

  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of plant operations, including production data, equipment status, and maintenance activities.

  • Emergency Response: Respond effectively to emergency situations, following established protocols to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of the facility.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or relevant coursework is a plus.

  • Proven experience in operating and maintaining industrial equipment, preferably in the renewable energy sector and/or wastewater sector.

  • Strong understanding of RNG production processes and equipment.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues independently.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to be on call and respond after-hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
